The Detroit Tigers(Detroit Tigers championship rings) and the New York Yankees meet in game two of their three game MLB(mlb world series championship rings) set from Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Detroit Tigers will look to rebound after a 3-1 loss in the series opener on Monday. Jody Mercer accounted for all of Detroit’s offense in the losing effort, going 2 for 4 with a double as the Tigers had the two hits and an unearned run on the board in the loss as the rest of the Tigers went 0 for 25 with 8 strikeouts. Tyson Ross ended up with the L, falling to 0-1 after allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits while walking and whiffing four apiece over five innings of work. Jordan Zimmermann will start game two and is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 4 strikeouts this season. In his career, Zimmermann is 3-1 with a 2.84 ERA and 27 strikeouts against the Yankees.
The New York Yankees(New York Yankees championship rings for sale) will look to pick up steam after their win in the series opener on Monday. Brett Gardner and Gary Sanchez each hit a solo home run while Aaron Judge added a double and Greg Bird contributed a base hit as well as the Yanks mustered up just five hits as a team in the winning effort. Domingo German got the win, allowing just the unearned run on one hit while walking five and striking out seven over five innings of work. Aroldis Chapman closed out the 9th for his 1st save of the season. Masahiro Tanaka will start game two and is 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA and 5 strikeouts this season. In his career, Tanaka is 2-3 with a 3.82 ERA and 33 strikeouts against Detroit.
Detroit is 2-5 in Zimmermann’s last 7 road starts and 15-38 in their last 53 road games while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 games overall. New York is 47-22 in Tanaka’s last 69 home starts and 75-35 in their last 110 home games while the over is 11-4 in their last 15 games overall. The over is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings between these two teams.
Zimmermann pitched well in his debut, throwing seven shutout innings, but I think it really speaks volumes that Zimmermann didn’t get the win in that situation as the Tigers couldn’t get him any run support. Detroit’s struggles at the plate are real this season, as the Tigers have scored just 7 runs in 5 games, the 1.4 runs per game ranking 29th out of 30 teams to this point early on. Tanaka was solid as well, but the difference for me is that Tanaka has the better lineup behind him and that should be enough for the Yankees(championship rings) to cruise to another win here. I’ll side with New York and the RL for a second straight big W.
